These terms apply to Rook & Rating, a free website of chess calculators for ratings, performance, norms, tiebreaks, Swiss rounds and time controls. By using the site you accept these terms, our Privacy Policy and our Disclaimer. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.

Using the Calculators

You may use the tools and guides free of charge, without an account, for personal, club, school and tournament purposes, including publishing results you have calculated. Results depend on the values you enter and the rules stated on each page; you are responsible for checking that they match the regulations of your event and rating system.

Not an Official Source

The site is not an official rating list, norm certificate or tournament ruling. FIDE's published ratings and regulations, national federations' records and the decisions of arbiters always take precedence.

Use in Tournaments

Do not consult the site during your own game. Using electronic devices or external information while playing is prohibited by the Laws of Chess and by the rules of online servers. Players may use the calculators between rounds where the event's rules allow; arbiters and organisers may use them to check calculations.

Publishing Standings

If you publish standings, tiebreaks or rating estimates calculated with the site, state the rules you applied, and correct them if the official figures differ.

Acceptable Use

Do not attempt to disrupt the site, scrape it at a rate that affects other users, introduce malicious code or use it for any unlawful purpose.

Intellectual Property

The text, graphics and code of the site belong to Rook & Rating or its licensors. You may quote short passages with a link back. Rating formulas, regulations and the results you calculate are not owned by us; organisation names belong to their owners and are used only to describe the subject.

Availability and Changes

We aim to keep the site available and correct but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may change, add or remove tools and content at any time.

Limitation of Liability

The site is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from use of the site, including decisions about entries, prizes, norms, pairings or tournament standings based on the calculators. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
